same old brand new zouk
Same-old: the long queues, familiar faces of the bouncers, music, the tiny washrooms, the 'smell'brand new: retro cum futuristic decor, the 'zara-ish' beige outfits of the bouncers, re-arrangement of the bars, expanded floor space of 'Phuture',
Last night, I went to Zouk-Singapore's most established water-hole cum club, with usher-mates after having dinner at Thai Express. I've heard so much about the 'revamped Zouk',comments such as 'retro decor!', 'bigger dance floor' etc. Wasn't really that keen to go Zouk because since it's re-opening,the place has been jam-packed like nobody's business. When Zouk closed for almost a month for it's renovations, I am sure the regulars aka Zoukers felt a void in their lives esp on Wed (Mambo Night) and Sat nights. It's like,'what my friend said,'A part of me has been taken away!'.Hard core yah.
Anyway, the music was a disappointment. Over at Phuture, where it supposed to play hip hop, the DJ )i think it was a guest DJ) spinned reggae. Many of the clubbers just sat around and drank, even at 12am+! This is highly unusual. Maybe coz I can't appreciate reggae, i was instantly turned off by the music and felt desperate to leave. That bad huh, you might think. The main Zouk wasn't that spectacular either. The trance music was 'thumbs down' and 80% of the crowd were just wriggling in their stationary positions. A few interesting sights though. There was this young Indian expat, who bears a close resemblance to a Bollywood star (dun ask me what name..I cannot remember! Except Aishwaraya Rai....correct spelling???), dancing and shaking his bon bon wildly to the 'spectators'. Some cheered but you can tell that those cheers were snides, haha! He was SO SO SO attention seeking! Thinking that he danced very well (*rolls eyes*), he moved with the music and cheered himself on. I was like," Grow up! You sure the cheers are not snides?!" Sometimes, these expats really turn my off..really. Then there were a couple of transexuals, really pretty ones, who were the 'party of the party'. My friend, who works as a corporate banker.told me that these were the same 'ladies' who attended a party thrown by the FJ Benjamin group.
Well...we left at 12.45am! So early.Zouk was a DISAPPOINTMENT last night, even worse than Siam Supperclub. Majority of us were tired (I wasn't!!).Someone suggested Newsroom bar and I was like 'Let's go!!".But well, if the majority are tired,no point going lah.
Looking forward to Post Bar this coming Thursday!
